Artists for my music magazine

I'm looking at bands and artists for my music magazine. I am looking at festival line ups, like 'End of the Road' festival, 'Glastonbury' and 'Reading', to find my inspiration.

Music Magazine Introduction...

For inspiration for my music magazine I will be looking at 'NME' magazine and 'fRoots'magazine. fRoots magazine consentrates on Folk music, which is the genre I would like to incoporate into my magazine, including alternative bands. I like the covers of NME magazine as they catch peoples eye, I aslo like their name as it's simple and easy to remember.

My school magazine cover

I had to upload this twice because I accidently deleted it the other day. There are lots of ways I could improve my magazine. Some ways are...

  • Put more headlines and stories on the front to make it look more interesting.
  • The cutting out of the person on the front is not very good and could be improved a lot. The reason it not good quality because I was not aware of the photoshop software.
  • The picture is also too small and not mid-shot which I will take into account when making my music magazine.

Contents for school magazine!

This is my contents for my school magazine I tried to do it on InDesign but it would not let me upload it so I then made it in photoshop and I prefer my new contents page over all.

Music Magazine contents and double page spread.

Music magazine contents and double page spread conventions...

I looked at three music magazine's contents pages and double page spreads to find out the usual conventions of them to help me with my own music magazine's contents.

I looked at Touch magazine, I discovered that the contents had a famous woman in a red dress which matched the font and colour scheme of the page. The contents numbers also start at page five because the contents doesn't include the front cover the contents and a    few other pages. The double pages spread in Touch magazine '411 girls' followed the same colour scheme as the contents, red. It was a gossip page with photos of celebrities and people clubbing.

I then looked at Uncut magazine which is published by IPC media and the publisher is Faith Hill. On the contents there is five pictures, one is the main photo bigger than the others. The colour scheme is red, black, white and cream. Uncut magazine focuses on it's main features on the contents. The double page spread in Uncut magazine follows the same colour scheme as the contents, red, black, white and cream. It has two small pictures. It's a feedback page where people can write in and comment on anything in the last issue of the magazine.

The last magazine I looked at was Mixmag which is published by 'Development Hell'. On the contents there is one big pictures of the main band the magazine is featuring. The numbers start at page 37 and has seven features in the magazine. The colour scheme is white, yellow and black. The double page spread is a V.I.P page  which is similar to the feedback page in Uncut magazine as it gives people a chance to write into the magazine and talk about gigs they had been too. It has one big picture and eight smaller pictures. It also shares the same colour scheme as the contents page, which all the magazines I have looked at do.

School magazine cover completed

This is my completed school magazine cover. It could be improved a lot by the cropping around the image if that was neater.

School magazine so far...

So far.....

Magazine name: At this stage me and Charlotte chose the name 'Community' for the school magazine. But we are not too keen on using it as it is rather bland.

Values: We have decided that the values of the magazine are going to be based of performances and charity work.

Ideas: Articles in the magazines include charity fundraising events, performance reviews. There will be sixteen pages and at least twenty articles so that there will be around two articles per page. The general feel of the magazine is that students will be creating the magazine for students but there will also be something in there for everybody. The magazine itself will have four editions, for each season, Autumn, Winter, Spring, Summer.

Images: We would have a selection of images on each page, to make the articles more interesting and not too much reading or it could make the magazine look bland and boring. We are currently taking photos now and are soon to be looking through the photos to choose the best ones, which will suit our magazine.
